Interviewer: Hi, welcome to Metro Brokers TV, I'm here with Barclay Logan, with Thompson Daviau Realty, Barclay thanks for joining us today.
Barclay Logan: Nice to be here.
Interviewer: Tell me a little bit about where you are located.
Barclay Logan: We are in Boulder. We work all around the Boulder area, so Lafayette, Louisville, the North Metro Area, Westminster, Broomfield, Longmont, Niwot; but the office itself is located in Boulder.
Interviewer: Okay great, and so, what makes your office special?
Barclay Logan: Well we have a nice personal touch. There are three brokers in our office and one assistant, so we work as a team on most things. We're able to give people special attention, not too big for our britches, so we like it that way. We like being able to give that extra attention to each and every client.
Interviewer: And what type of customers do you work with?
Barclay Logan: Well, anyone really- buyers, sellers, investors. It's not really so much the type of buyers, it's more the location. We specialize in the locations that I spoke of. You know, one day I'll sell a $100,000 condo and two weeks later sell a half a million dollar home and then sell a horse property. So really it's more the location than the actual client.
Interviewer: And so why did you get into real estate?
Barclay Logan: By accident really, what I did was, I wanted to invest in real estate, so I took a part time job just to earn while I learn. I used to run a construction company so I thought it was a natural progression but then it just kind of fell in my lap. I enjoyed what I was doing. The person I was working with let me work with some of the first time home buyers- which was very exciting. You know, when they got their first home they were doing cartwheels down the street, I just loved that and that was very exhilarating. So that got me hooked... that certainly got me hooked.
Interviewer: Right, tell me about what you enjoy doing when you are not selling real estate?
Barclay Logan: Well I have a family, so that keeps me busy. I have two small children, two small sons, so every once in a while I can sneak off to play a round of golf or do a hike by myself. It doesn't happen a lot. So usually it's stuff with the family, you know take the family to the lake, enjoy the Colorado outdoors- it's always sunny here, and I just love it here. So we try and get the kids out as much as we can but my job is pretty busy so... you know.
Interviewer: Definitely, tell me a little bit about what's going on in the Boulder housing market these days?
Barclay Logan: Boulder wasn't affected so much with the whole housing crisis. Of course it was affected... but it's such an idyllic place to live, that there was not a big drop off. So we've had a pretty steady market. Rates are really low, so that makes a huge difference. In fact, one big difference that's happened to the Boulder market is, rents have passed ownership as far as price, it's actually more affordable, at least in my area, to buy than to rent, because the rents have escalated a lot.
Barclay Logan: Yeah, so the rates have a lot to do with that too, because now your mortgage payments are a lot less. Rents have gone up and when you combine the two- it just makes so much more sense to buy. I tell all my first time buyers, if you have the ability to buy right now... buy! Why not? You are saving yourself a whole lot of money.
